By competitive, I assume you refer to getting in? In terms of competitiveness among peers in med school, it is.

I applied and was accepted into NUS med in 2001, but turned it down. (My grades were 4As, GP A2, Chinese A1, 2 S paper merits) I personally didn't find it extremely competitive then, but perhaps things have changed now due to the new Dean and new admissions process. All I had to do then was fill in an application form, and then go for an interview. Having said that, I had a few friends who did better than me and were rejected.

My younger brother got in last year though, via the new scheme. He had 4 As, GP A2, Chinese A1, no S papers.

The new selection process involves an application, shortlisted candidates then take an essay 'exam', attend 2 interviews - one by a student panel and another by the deanery.
