Hmmm, I’m inclined to believe that the way a patient is treated is likely to be a factor in the effectiveness of their healthcare. Are they going to listen to advice so readily someone they may feel dislikes them due to their colour? Are they as likely to book/keep appointments when dealing with admin staff who does the same? If these perceptions were merely in the mind of the patient, would they still affect their decisions? Let’s not pretend racism isn’t alive and frequently well. It’s only a generation since the civil rights movement in the US, and here in north Englishland, I work every day in a deeply racist and unpleasant town (Sunderland, I’m looking at you). Whether these factors are in any true sense measurable, or separable from other social effects,I am inclined to believe they exist.

Hi Chris
Thanks for this list.
Another blog to consider:

- not wholly focused on informatics, but possibly richer as a result…?
