Fascinating video made in 1972 by the creators of the ARPAnet. The engineers who invented the precursor to the internet outline why the internet was required and the problems it was solving.
I have a long commute at the moment so I’ve been investigating putting some Podcasts on my SPV M5000 pocket pc phone.
I’ve mostly been subscribing to tech podcasts but I also found some medical ones which might be of use to other doctors. Medical Podcasting seems to be in it’s infancy at the moment but I think it’s a great way of reaching people. The Washington Post claims there are close to 2000 medical podcasts out there. Perhaps I’ll start a Medical Informatics podcast… Here’s the list of medical podcasts I’ve found from various sources (most of these come from the document at The Krafty Librarian:

I’ve been putting some of the Health Informatics course material into Blackboard today. Although it’s a bit unintuitive to get around, you can add content pretty easily and add tests and quizzes to the end of sections to reinforce learning objectives.
I did notice that on the Blackboard homepage, they seem to have patented concept of the LMS (learning management system). Read the press release here: http://www.blackboard.com/company/press/release.aspx?id=887622. This announcement seeems to have been taken rather badly by various internet pundits. Check out the reaction at slashdot: http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=06/08/02/1217219. A number of concerns are raised including what will happen to open source LMSs like Moodle.
